The Dangers of Tobacco Use


Smoking

  1. Smoking causes cancer, and not just lung cancer. Smoking is a known cause of bladder, pancreatic, mouth, esophagus, cervix, kidney, uterus, an larynx cancers. In fact, not including lung cancer, 30% of all cancers are caused by smoking
  2. Smoking causes lung disease. This includes Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) like emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also irritates existing pulmonary diseases and disorders, including asthma, and increases the likelihood of contracting respiratory infections like influenza, pneumonia, and bronchitis.
  3. 21% of all coronary heart disease deaths are caused by smoking. Smoking increases your chances of stroke, heart attack, and other life-threatening cardiovascular diseases.
  4. Smoking may reduce fertility or cause impotence.
  5. Smoking causes vision and hearing problems, as well as damage to the sense of taste and smell.
  6. Smoking raises the risk of spontaneous abortion, premature birth, SIDS, and a wealth of other complications for pregnant women and their babies.

Spit Tobacco
(also known as dip, snuff, chewing tobacco, etc.)

  1. Spit tobacco causes cancer, including mouth, esophagus, larynx, pharynx, stomach, and pancreatic cancer, all of which can be deadly.
  2. Spit tobacco increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.
  3. Spit tobacco causes gum disease, cavities, and tooth loss.
  4. Using spit tobacco can damage your sense of taste.
  5. The cancers caused by spit tobacco can be caused in as few as five years.
