North Carolina Thoracic Society

The North Carolina Thoracic Society is an affiliated chapter of the American Thoracic Society that works in partnership with the American Lung Association of North Carolina. The society works to further clinical, epidemiological and scientific studies to tuberculosis and other pulmonary diseases and to promote the professional education of its members. Physicians and all other members of the health profession interested in the respiratory diseases are eligible for membership.

Members are invited to attend the annual Atlantic Coast Regional Thoracic Conference. The weekend-long event features a strong scientific and clinical program, with sessions covering topics pertinent to practice in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

North Carolina Thoracic Society membership categories include:
  • Active Members hold a doctoral degree or its equivalent and should be health specialists in respiratory disease or other diseases of the chest, or in other scientific fields closely related to the activities of the Society. At the discretion of the NCTS Executive Committee, the requirement of a doctoral degree may be waived for a limited number of health professionals. Active members may vote and hold office.
  • Associate Members should be health specialists in respiratory disease or other diseases of the chest, or in related scientific fields. Associate members may not vote or hold office.
  • Senior Members are active members who have reached age 65. Those who have retired because of illness or other exceptional circumstances may request in writing transfer to senior membership. Senior members shall have all the privileges of active members with the exception of holding office.

Expenses of the Society are underwritten by the American Lung Association of North Carolina and membership dues. Membership dues are $75 per year for Active and Senior members and $25 per year for Associate members. Membership dues support the Society and the Atlantic Coast Regional Thoracic Conference.
